Pongo Studio

The two names

Pongo is the studio name. Balene Film S.r.l. is the company that publishes it, holds the contracts, and appears on the invoices. Where a document needs a legal entity, it names Balene Film.

People

Who runs it

Pongo was founded by Niccolò Palomba, a director of photography and a member of AIC and IMAGO.

Twenty years on set. Films he shot have taken three David di Donatello nominations and two Nastri d’Argento, along with awards at international festivals. He works mainly in auteur cinema.

Why the studio exists

Pongo was set up in 2024 to solve problems met at work. Twenty years on set and in post produce a list of things that are missing: measurements no instrument gives you, checks made by eye, steps that cost time because the right tool does not exist. The tools start from that list.

Who the tools are for

The tools are made for camera department and post production professionals, and for videographers working to the same standards.

Tests

How the tools are checked

Prototypes go out on real jobs before anything ships. Verification runs through the rental houses and post facilities the studio works with: calibrated instruments, the same ones a production uses to check cameras, lenses and workflow.
